Introduction to Fruits

Many different varieties of wild fruits can be found growing in the world. These can be collected to be eaten, or farmed, with the right equipment. These can be found on different varieties of bushes or trees.

Most fruiting plants have a common lifecycle. They will grow, form flowers, sprout fruit, and then lay dormant.

Fruit plants are seasonal. During their cold season, these plants will appear brown and lifeless. In the spring, they become green and healthy, getting ready to produce fruit and grow larger. The exact times this happen varies by the fruit. Fruit plants can die if kept outside the range of their Climate Conditions.

Fruit Trees

Fruit trees grow from tiny saplings into large, flowering trees. The branches of fruit trees are their heart, and they will grow as long as the climate conditions are right. As fruit trees mature, they will grow leaves all around their branches. The leaves can flower and fruit depending on the Season.

Fruit trees start out as Saplings. Saplings will only start growing―Placing their first piece of the tree trunk―If it is not their dormant season. The size of the finished tree is loosely determined by how many saplings are in the original sapling block.
More saplings can be spliced onto a single block through Grafting. To splice a sapling into another, just ПКМ on it while holding a sapling and a Knife in your off hand.

To get saplings from a fruit tree, break the 'elbow' branch blocks (90° angled branches) with an Axe. Saplings can also be placed on these 'elbow' sections, if they are not too high up in the tree. This allows one fruit tree to grow multiple kinds of fruit. Harvesting fruit is done with ПКМ when the leaf block is bearing fruit. This will give one fruit, and revert the plant back to its growing stage. Harvesting can be automated with Harvest Baskets

Bananas are a special kind of fruit tree. They grow only vertically, lack leaves, and only fruit at the topmost block. Saplings are dropped from the flowering part of the plant. Once a banana plant is harvested, it dies, and will not produce any more fruit. It must be replanted in the spring.

Palm Fruit Trees

Palm Fruit Trees are another variety of fruit-bearing trees that can typically be found along coasts near sea water.

Palm fruit trees will develop fruit clusters when within their Climate Range and during their fruiting season. Clusters grow attached to the "head/crown" of the tree and advance in age once per day until mature. Mature fruit clusters can be harvested by throwing projectiles (except snowballs) at them, ПКМ them, or using Harvest Baskets on them.

To transplant palm fruit trees you can harvest their crown block with an axe to yield 1-2 saplings. Saplings can be planted on dirt or sand and will grow during their season and when Hydration and Average Temperature are valid. Saplings will grow in multiple stages, taking around 5 days per stage. Their final height is determined by the tree type.

Coconut Tree

Coconut trees are a special kind of palm fruit tree. Coconut clusters grow in 7 stages. They can be harvested while green for young coconuts which provide coconut milk. Or they can be harvested when mature for coconut flesh. Be careful when harvesting coconut trees as they will deliver a strong blow if they fall on you.

Date trees can be harvested for fruit when their clusters fully mature. Date clusters grow in 4 stages and provide 4-8 item drops when harvested.
