Bloomery

The Bloomery is a device used to smelt Iron Ore into Iron Blooms which can be worked into Wrought Iron. Some common iron ores are Hematite, Limonite, and Magnetite. These ores melt into Cast Iron rather than Wrought Iron. All iron-bearing items melt into Cast Iron. To turn them into usable iron, the bloomery is needed. Any iron item can be used in the bloomery, including iron tools and cast iron ingots!

The bloomery is made from 8 Bronze Double Plates, which is a total of 32 bronze ingots.
The bloomery will also need 22 stone blocks such as stone bricks.

A full size bloomery. The bloomery block will open and close with 오른쪽 버튼.

The bloomery can contain up to a maximum of 48 Inputs, with 16 items per layer of the chimney; 8 charcoal and 8 iron containing items.

To add items to the bloomery, climb up to the top and throw items inside with Q. A tower of grey ore should form.

You can only use Charcoal as fuel for your bloomery.

The bloomery consumes 1 Charcoal and 144 mB of Cast Iron to produce one Bloom.

Most iron dust contains 129mB of iron, so unless you are using pure cast iron ingots, we recommend 25 metal ore dusts and 22 charcoal for a full bloomery. This will incur a loss of 57mB of iron.
After filling the bloomery with a combination of Fuel and Ore, light the bloomery doors, and wait 15 in-game hours for the bloomery to smelt. When the bloomery shuts off, it leaves behind a Bloom block. This contains hot Raw Iron Blooms which can be obtained by mining the Bloom repeatedly with a pickaxe.

Remember that a little iron waste is not worth your time worrying about!

The Bloom Block

A large Bloom.

The Raw Iron Bloom must be worked in a Anvil to make Refined Iron Bloom. And then that must be worked again into Wrought Iron Ingots.
It is recommended to use Helve Hammers to automate the refining steps.

Bloomery Tips

  • If the bloomery finds contains more items than it can handle it will try to spit them out the front.
  • To retrieve your items from a bloomery that is not lit, break the bloomery block.
  • Blooms will only melt into cast iron, not wrought iron. They must be worked!
Steam Bloomery

Available with the creation of Black Steel is the Steam Bloomery. This structure is capable of producing blooms automatically, on top of being faster and more efficent than the traditional bloomery by using high-pressure steam.

A steam bloomery requires item input and item output buses, a steam input hatch, and three Bronze Firebox Casings.
