Panning & Sluices

Panning

Panning is a method of obtaining ore dusts of certain native ores by searching in rivers and other waterways.

Panning makes use of Ore Deposits which are found in gravel patches in the bottom of lakes and rivers.

In order to get started panning, you will need an Empty Pan.

Clay can be knapped into a pan as shown above.

Once the pan has been knapped, it needs to be fired to create a Ceramic Pan.

The next thing you will need to find is some sort of Ore Deposit. Ore deposits can come in several different ores: Native Copper, Native Silver, Native Gold, and Cassiterite.

Sluices

The Sluice is a device that is used to process Ore Deposits automatically, producing the same results that Panning does, with slightly higher probabilities.

When placed, the sluice takes up two blocks. Water must flow through the top of the sluice and out the bottom in order for it to operate. The sluice is able to work when water appears to be flowing through it. The water flowing into the sluice must be the last block of a water stream. There must be an empty block below the bottom of the sluice for water to flow into.

To use the sluice, drop deposit items into the water stream and let them flow into it. They will appear on the sluice, and after some time, there is a chance of the processed items being spat out the bottom.

Expected Products

Panning and sluicing can give a few possible products: Ore Dusts, Small Piles of Ore Dust, Loose Rocks, and Gems.
The probabilities for obtaining certain drops can be viewed by looking at the ore deposit in EMI.
