Cooking Methods

Index

Introduction

Food is one of the most important elements to the mechanics of TerraFirmaGreg. You will need to cook food to make it safe to eat and to boost its Nutritional Properties.

Some methods of cooking even offer benefits such as reduced decay times.

Firepit

A Firepit is likely the first cooking method you will have access to. It is capable of cooking only one item at a time and uses logs as fuel.

Grill

A Grill is an item that can be added to a Firepit, Oven, or Gas Burner to cook foods more efficiently. The grill is able to cook five items at once, and also gives these items the Wood Grilled trait when cooking food, which provides a minor buff to the item's expiration date. In order to create a firepit with grill, first create a Firepit, then use a Wrought Iron Grill on the firepit.

Cooking Pot

A Pot is an item that can be added to the Firepit, Oven, or Gas Burner to cook new types of food and also produce some other useful items.

In order to create a firepit with a pot, first create a Firepit, then use a Ceramic Pot on the firepit.

The pot contains five item slots and holds up to 1000 mB of any fluid.

In order to cook something in the pot, first the fluid must be added by using any type of fluid container, such as a bucket, on the pot. Then add items and light the pot. It will begin boiling for a while until the recipe is completed.

수프 제작법

Soup is made from 3-5 fruits, vegetables, or meats in a pot of water. When the recipe is done, the water in the pot will turn red. 오른쪽 버튼 with a bowl to retrieve it. Soup combines multiple nutrients into a single meal.

간단한 제작법

다른 냄비 제작법들은 아이템과 액체를 다른 무언가로 바꿉니다. 예를 들면, 5개의 재를 물에서 끓이면 잿물이 됩니다.

Ovens

Ovens are a great way of cooking lots of food in a way that improves their shelf life. Oven-baked food decays at 90% of the rate of regular food. Ovens are a multiblock structure consisting of a Bottom Oven, Top Oven, and Chimneys. These blocks start off as clay, and must be Cured by raising their temperature to a certain amount for long enough.

Ovens are insulated with Bricks, other oven blocks, or anything that can insulate a Forge. This means you can use stone blocks if you want!

Tongs or Mittens are a safe way to remove hot items from an Oven. Just 오른쪽 버튼 on it while holding it to retrieve items. Otherwise, you may get burned!

Oven Appliances extend oven functionality.

Oven Building

The Oven first consists of the Top Oven placed on top of the Bottom Oven. All sides of each oven part, besides the front face, should then be covered with Oven Insulation blocks. Placing a stack of three chimneys directly behind the oven causes the smoke from the oven to travel up and out of it, preventing fires. If you don't do this, smoke will quickly fill up your house and fire may spread from the oven!

The Bottom Oven is used to hold fuel, which may only be logs. Press 오른쪽 버튼 to add them. The bottom oven is also the part of the oven which may be lit with a Firestarter or other tool. It will transfer generated heat to the top oven or appliances.

The bottom oven must be insulated to maintain heat.

The Top Oven contains the items that are being cooked. It will draw heat from the Bottom Oven and slowly release it over time. Press 오른쪽 버튼 with an item to insert. Remember to use Tongs or Mittens to remove the items after.

The top oven needs insulation to reach higher temperatures. But it is not always recommended since some items like bread can burn to ash if left at high heat.

Pots and Grills can be placed on top of a Bottom Oven. These devices will get heat automatically from the bottom oven. The pot is only able to be used for making soup. It cannot execute regular pot recipes.

Oven Curing

Curing Oven blocks is easy, but requires patience. Simply start running your Bottom Oven as you would normally, and then wait. If an oven block is above 600°C for about 80 seconds, it will cure itself and any oven blocks around it. The curing effect will pass all the way up chimneys nearby.

Crafting oven insulation for your Bottom Oven allows you to remove the need for insulating it on the sides and back. It does not remove the need for the chimney or to insulate top ovens. Use 오른쪽 버튼 to apply it.

Countertops and Finishes are aesthetic blocks that count as oven parts. Finishes are applied with 오른쪽 버튼. Only brick oven blocks may take on finishes. Stone finish can't be applied to brick. Use Sealed bricks to match the look.

Oven Hopper

The Oven Hopper will input logs into any Bottom Oven that it is facing. It holds 16 logs (4 stacks of 4, like a log pile), and its inventory is fed by dropping items in the top. Item pipes are capable of doing the same thing, but they cannot act as insulation.

Ashtray

The Ashtray collects Wood Ash when placed below a Bottom Oven Block. There is a 0.5 chance it gains ash when fuel is consumed. Ash is extracted with 오른쪽 버튼 or hoppers, and inserted via 왼쪽 버튼 it.

Note: Vats, pots and grills count as insulating blocks.

Vat

The Vat produces boiling recipes in bulk. It has one slot for items, and 10,000mB of fluid space, similar to a barrel.

Vats can only hold one fluid type at a time. So, if you make a recipe that outputs fluids while still having leftover fluid inputs it will void those inputs!

To use a vat, 오른쪽 버튼 it with fluids and items to add them to the inventory. With an empty hand and Shift held, click to seal and unseal the vat. A vat will not boil until it is sealed.
Vats should be placed above a Bottom Oven. If the vat overflowed on completion of the recipe, it will not boil!

Vats can be automatically opened and closed with Redstone, and interact with pipes or a Mechanical Arm.

Jarring Station

The Jarring Station is used to automatically fill Jars with the Vat. The jarring station has a spout on one side that should point to the vat.
When the vat produces jam, it will automatically fill the jars with it and seal them.
